National Hockey League

National Hockey League is a proficient game association which is composed of ice hockey group situated in North America. This organization is also known as LigueNationale de Hockey in French language. The association’s players are divided into two seminars consisting of three sections.

This organization was established in the year 1917 in Montreal at Quebec and consists of five teams. But due to development, transfers and decline, there is an increase in the number of players and now it consists of 30 teams. Out of 30, 6 are located in Canada and 24 are located in the US .

A great majority of players in the National Hockey League were the Canadians. After the hockey game became successful, this game is also played among other countries and became popular in Eastern Europe and United States and large part of Europeans and American players take part in this game.

History of National Hockey League

There was a large dispute on the Canadian National Hockey League between the owners of other teams and the owner of the Toronto Blueshirts and both the owners met in Montreal to have a discussion on the future of the organization. Their discussion has formed this organization in the year 1917.

The teams were formed such as Montreal Wanderers, Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Bulldogs and Ottawa Senators. But now they are known as Toronto Arenas. During the first nine years, these teams became successful on the ice and won Stanley Cup about 7 times. There were about 10 teams at the end of the 1930-31 but due to World War II and the Great Depression, the teams were reduced to six in the year 1942. As the game became successful, the teams began to increase and reached up to 30 at the end of the year 2000.


The game hockey is played on a hockey rink by the National Hockey League. There are six players on each side on the ice and the players used to wear ice skates while playing the game and the game also consists of one goaltender on each side. The main aim of the game is to make a goal on the other side of the opponent’s rink by hitting a hard rubber disc known as puck. Every hockey game is between the two teams and is played for about 60 minutes.

Notable Players of National Hockey League

The best renowned players of this organization were Maurice Richard, Jacques Plante, Gordie Howe, Newsy Lalonde, Eddie Shore and Bobby Orr. The top scoring players in the game in the year 2005-2006 were Alexander Ovechkin, Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton, Daniel Alfredsson and Jaromir Jagr.
